If I recall, the WT used to teach that the 1918-1919 stagnation and subsequent imprisonment of the eight WT officials was an expression of God's displeasure owing to lingering vestiges of Christendom and compromise on the issue of neutrality; that belief seems to have been scuttled; or has it? What have you observed?

Really, folks, who cares whether the JWs in Britain, or anywhere else, grow, shrink or stagnate? Just have a look at what passes for popular entertainment on the boob tube as a barometer of the collective intelligence of the unwashed masses.

Room 215
Great work, as usual, Blondie.... hmm, I wonder why they didn't publish Memorial attendance figures for several years after 1925... anyone care to guess?
And as for Jehovah providing escape for Rutherford and his cronies fromtheir 1918-1920 travails, Rutherford's creaven decision to excise the offending pages from subsequent volumes of The Finished Mystery, deserves credit for having provided a big assist! (I wonder how many JWs thoroughly understand the issues and facts relating to this episode in their history; no wonder since if they know anything, it comes from sources like this!)

BLOOD FRACTIONS - what if all JWs knew they are a Matter of Conscience???
by insearchoftruth inif each and every jw were to accept fractions as a matter of conscience, how many of the senseless deaths could be prevented.. .
i have no idea on what is normally given to a person in a transfusion, but from some of the reading i have done, whole blood transfusions, which are strictly forbidden, are very rare.
really how dangerous is the current blood policy...if all jehovahs witnesses were made aware of what is actually allowed and accepted the fractions allowed?
-
Room 215
Apart from the fact that they're playing God with such hair-splitting over fractions that totally vitiates the meaning of ``abstain", it's appalling that the WT leaders haven't spelled out CLEARLY and in BOLD LETTERS what is and is not considered a matter of conscience to their guileless drones, and speaks volumes about their lack of concern over the welfare of their flock.
As has been pointed out, transfusions of whole blood are quite rare, and only in the case of traumatic blood loss. Actually, the verbal scuttlebut being passed along among elders is ``psst if anyone who takes blood grovels and apologizes, let the matter drop.'' Overall, it appears that the WT is in effect tiptoeing away from its once rigid policy without making a formal ``new light" change which would bury them under an avalanche of lawsuits.

Blondie's Comments You Will Not Hear at the 11-02-08 WT Study (PURE LANG)
by blondie incomments you will not hear at the 11-2-08 wt study (august 15, 2008, pages 21-25) (pure language).
are you speaking the "pure language" fluently?
speaking the pure language fluently .

Room 215
Hi Blondie, thanks for this insightful analysis. It seems to me that ``pure language" in JW Theospeak refers to lacing everyday conversation with expressions and JW jargon unitelligible to worldy ones (read ``normal human beings" here). It also seems that over the past several years, they've actually turned their backs on the general public: the so-called ``public lectures" have morphed into service talks for insiders only, filled as they are with references to ``the faithful and discreet slave", ``pioneering," ``anointed remnant", ``Bethel", etc.,etc.
Speakers sfrequently read verbatim from large segments of WT literature to the detriment of scripture reading (when at Bethel we on the speaking list were repeatedly warned not to use Theospeak or read from anything other than the Bible). Then there are the special ``kool-aid" edition of the WT, which is likewise often baffling to any non-JW who tries to make sense of it.

JW "get-togethers" weird
by Iwonder17 ini was brought up in the truth and have always found itstrange that people will invite ones that have "fallen away" over to their house for dinner etc with the hopes that that will bring them back in to the truth.. is it just me, or is this thinking weird???
do any other religions thinks that if a member of their church stps going, that all they need to do if have a bbq and the person will start going to church again???.
don't get me wrong, i understand the "encouragement" part of it, but i think that it is a weak gesture as well as i think that it is such a crappy "rule" that if someone doesn't respond to things like this, then they just drop them altogether.. i know a father whose son is not a jw, and he just chooses to have nothing to do with him.
-
Room 215
Admittedly not all individual JWs are weird; some are quite admirable, others are certifiably nuts. The system, overall, is weird as if promotes inolerance, self-righteousness, callousness toward all non-JWs and an unwarranted sense of superiority.

Billy's Comments You Might Hear at the 10-12-08 WT Study (MAINTAIN LOYALTY)

Room 215
Wonderful, Billy.... I find if particularly amusing that whenever they refer to the ''progressive revelation" of ``new light" as ''sharpening" their understanding, in actuality their changes go in the opposite direction: from precise/dogmatic (the meaning of ``this generation'' or the identities of the ``kings of the north and the south") to the muddled and ambiguous!
Also, the message I got from the ''old prophet" story is that sometimes one can be misled by a person with all the credentials of an approved representative of God who asserts that the ruinous b.s. he is passing on to you is something ''Jehovah told me." Sound familiar?

Atlas Shrugged
by purplesofa ini finished reading "atlas shrugged" by ayn rand yesterday.
like reading crisis of conscience it will forever alter the way i look at many many things.. this paragraph is only a small part in this amazing book, if you ever have a chance to read this book, try.
it's about a thousand pages, you can't just skim through.. i just want to share this....... "what is the nature of the guilt that your teachers call his original sin?
-
Room 215
Mine's definitely not a majority view, but impression of Atlas Shrugged is: overlong and overrated, with a distinctly midbrow radio serial quality to it.

Has there been a shift in how JWs deal with disfellowshipped ones?
by LouBelle ini ask this simply because two jws happend to be passing by me on two different occassions and both times i was greeted ""hello louise"" -- now these witnesses were in my congregation sooo i'm wonderfing if perhaps they've been told it's "okay to now greet those that have been disfellowshipped.
jehovahs' light is getting ever brighter in this time of the end and the direction, we do not need to be afraid of them, perhaps by your greeting them, they will realise they are still loved and want to come back to the truth.
we'll be here to welcome them back with open arms".
-
Room 215
The rules haven't changed, but in my experience, many, if not most ,JWs faced with a one-on-one with no one else around, will return a greeting,

Room 215
I know it sounds pretentious, but most of what's on commercial TV sickens me --- spoiled, narcissistic, self-absorbed celebs and their scandals and overdoses, etc. The cynicial commercial channels selling ``reality tv" by pandering to the lowest common denominators and at the same time saving tons of money by not producing quality prime-time programing. I really like most of Bill Maher-and Jeopardy, and find the animated ``Family Guy'' beneath contempt. The Simpsons, for most episodes, is outstanding. King of the Hill is quite amusing most of the time.
